They haven't painted the road lines yet so I'm still holding out hope that they may come fix the defects in it. Of course I'm sure it is misguided...

Well pulled an 11 hour day today to get projects graded. Lots of time spent working on grading those...

+1 for optimism! +1 for realizing that your optimism is most likely misplaced

we have a partial driveway---they still need to put the sidewalk back in (I think they can just leave it out since we cant park on it and it takes up valuable real estate in our driveway thus not allowing us to actually park on half of it).....

the biggest thing people dont understand about teachers is that after classes are over for the day they still have TONS of work to do, you have got to be one of those people who doesnt need too much sleep since you work more than 8+ hours weekdays.....

(fiep saw a program about Vienna tonight and is homesick, think we will be eating some wursts this month---its oktoberfest anyways).

I'll hold out hope until they put the lines in.

I see people still parking across sidewalks all the time. Makes running a bit more interesting some days...

I routinely put in 9 hour days. Get to work around 6:50am, stay until about 3:50-4pm. Plus I have a 30 min drive both ways, so I'm not home until 4:30 after leaving at 6:20. But ya, not many people realize that we put in more time than just the 7 or 8 hours students are in session. (Well I guess some teachers only put in that time, others who are more dedicated put in more)

you have to do more work either way--preparing lesson plans, grading homework or projects, making tests, grading tests.....may not need to be at school to do those but still lots of homework for you!

we are not allowed to park over the sidewalk, stupid village laws (and yes, our men in blue have nothing better to do than drive around looking for folks who are parking in their own driveways over a sidewalk).

hubby used to put in really long hours---leave home at 5am get home at 5-6pm mostly due to commuting (he is glad he doesnt have to do that anymore)...I used to have a rule about how far away I would work--more than 15 minute commute and I would say no (especially for what they paid and considering the price of gas)....

That is very true. Students (and parents for that matter) seem to take the extra time we put in as a given. Like we are just required to pull "overtime" since we are teachers. Oh well. It is for the students.

I think it is illegal most places to park across sidewalks. People just ignore it.

I was within 10 minutes before I got married. The drive isn't bad but I would have liked to have been closer.

yeah, cant always be close when you change jobs (or apartments)....but we can try!

got the car back and the price tag for the 'repairs'....think I will be eating ramen for a while.

and they finished the driveways---decided that the ones in the cul-de-sac really didnt need the sidewalks even though there are sidewalks on either side of the driveways (and those driveways are longer than ours too think they need a really angry mad emote.)

Indeed. Next job I'll aim to be closer to where we are living.

Sounds like my wife's car is going to need some repairs. She is going to call her mechanic today. Could be something really pricey that needs to be fixed or it could be a cheap fix. Hoping for cheap but counting on pricey...

I think it is still illegal for them to park blocking the two sides of the sidewalk. But I dunno.

no, they didnt put the sidewalk back when they redid the driveway---so it goes to the driveway, stop and then starts up on the other side of it.

car repairs are always pricey.

That seems odd. Wonder why they decided to do that.

This will be a pricey repair. Months ago when the transmission was leaking we got it "fixed" and was told that it would hold up. The fact that it is leaking again says otherwise... Could be a new case or it could end up being having to replace the transmission. Either way, pricey as heck...

eeeeks sorry to hear that, yeah we had been putting our pricey fix off as well, but since its almost winter and its the winter car...we had to bite the bullet and get it done now.

was really 'fun' today going shopping and having to walk a block with 3 heavy bags of groceries and then up our flights of stairs (we arent allowed to park on our driveway for a full 7 days from when they finished--so that would be like wednesday at the earliest).

my phone saga continues---the one I bought had a warranty, so I called up and they said, send us the phone, so I did...in the mail this week I got a totally different phone back so I called up and asked what's up and they said they didnt have that phone in the warehouse (and didnt know when or if they would be getting one), so they sent me a replacement---which is not what I had wanted, kind of like buying a 65 mustang and them saying they couldnt fix it so they sent me back a 79 mustang 2 (and trying to convince me its better)....so I asked why they had not asked me if I wanted a replacement (they had not even thought of asking) or a refund (I would have picked the refund)....so now I have a crummy phone that doesnt do what I had bought it to do and they cs person then tells me I should return that new phone to the place I bought it! (that was golden---I should take a phone that is not the phone I bought nor the same kind of phone to the store and say 'gee, this isnt the phone I bought here, but can I return it'? I can see the returns person rolling on the floor right now)...needless to say emerson is NOT a company I will be doing business with again anytime in the future. (not to mention that they have also 'outsourced' their cs people to a different country other than our own, yes).

sigh...so I am down one phone

Her problem isn't one to be put off. It could be the difference between just replacing the case or replacing the whole transmission. Replacing the case would be cheaper, but if we let it go it will quickly become a transmission replacement. Of course it still might be, so who knows.

I need to upgrade my cell phone at some point. Just haven't done it yet. Plus my mom wants me to get off their plan, so I can't update if I want to stay on their plan for now. (Yes, I do pay them every month for my part of the bill, I'm not freeloading) So who knows what I'm going to do.

Sorry to hear you've had such a problem with your phone stuff. Just wish people could get it right the first time.

dont have a cell phone, hubby keeps wanting to upgrade his (he says 'I'm an IT guy with an outdated phone' ) and I say, it still works JUST FINE so there is no reason to spend gobs of money on a new one (not that he uses it much for a cell phone, mostly for an ipod--listening to music).
I think you should be on your own plan now too there pwnd--you have a wife/family of your own (and yeah, I didnt think you would be a free-loader!) When I moved and started living with my (now) hubby my mom said enough and let me take over all of my own stuff (like insurance )....think its time to cut those final cords!

spent waaay tooo muuch money on car upkeep for the last few years (the year of the tire--got tire-d of that one quick, the year of the brakes, the year of the battery, etc....glad to miss a few years and hope that both our cars last for many more to come), now I just wish that I didnt have to walk to where we are parked, I mean, geez we HAVE a garage and driveway that we can not use /facepalm! and the driveways didnt need replacing really --they were just done in 2000? 1? I just cant see how they could have been torn up so quickly (not sure what the other residents do on their that would require them to be replaced that soon----perhaps I am missing something, ok, perhaps I really dont want to know, just another good reason to get outta here).

I dont think things will change---our new work ethic (or lack of one <--better description) is 'pay me for my presence at this place of employment' not 'I go to work because I feel pride in what I do and dont like to get paid for doing nothing' guess that ended pretty much with those who were from the depression era (or kids thereof of which I am border="0" alt="" title="Stick Out Tongue" class="inlineimg" />

Wouldn't have a problem with it if my brother wasn't freeloading on their insurance and cell phone bill. I got my own insurance, bought my own car, and basically got everything but the cell bill in my name. He is still driving my parents car, on their insurance, and I think is even on their medical insurance still... Also my older sister and dead-beat brother in-law are both on it. And they don't pay my parents... I do.

Cars are a constant expense...

That is a bit how students react too. I should pass because I am here. Sadly my school kinda lets them do it. Failed 5 out of 6 classes? Welcome to high school! >.> And ya, our budget is all sorts of messed up. We spend billions each year on FOREIGN AID, but refuse to help those Americans in need. For example, after my hometown was hit by the tornado last year we got $0 in FEMA aid, because the destruction bill wasn't high enough. >.>

I have a nephew like that too---he has never worked a day in his life and thinks his parents will continue to support him (well news for him, they arent getting any younger and both have major health issues one of which is cancer)....his brother worked his way thru college and grad school (granted he is genius level IQ so he got scholarships and internships but he worked to get those unlike his brother who only finished hs by doing summer school after his last year). The parents are the ones who have to get smart and do something about the freeloading (dont kids roll off med insurance when they reach 25?)

>> other things we are not allowed to speak about, how about those freeloaders on the governments $--currently they have more 'rights' than those of us who were born here and pay taxes here and follow all the rules, we spend BILLIONS on them every year and the congressmen just keep pandering to them and giving them more and more things--like not having to show ID to vote, free education, free medical, ....gotta stop before I get << sorry about those fema dollars, but some places that received those never did actually see the dollars either (ask the neworleans folks).

think we need to move to sunnier topics beautiful day today, a bit warm but nice and sunny---been so for the last week, cant say I havent loved the weather for that time!

I think it is 26 now. Even still my brother is only 24. And he isn't a freeloader in the sense that he doesn't have a job. He does, he makes more than I do but he also lives in California. So cost of living is higher there. Even still, when I got a job I got kicked off of pretty much everything. Not so much for my brother. My sister also got "kicked" off of everything once she moved out. Of course they haven't even had enough money to pay for bills... Poor planning on their part.

It is super sad that those of us who are legal taxpayeres are constantly getting screwed. Lets make it better for the top 1% and the illegals, but the taxpayers? Meh, screw them.

It was nice, but ya, very warm. Float building starts this week for homecoming. I was schedule to "build" on Wednesday but I think I'm going to go help out tomorrow as well. Since I have power tools and no one else seems too. Have to be good for something you know.

I worked on one float in hs, got home late from it and got grounded (gee that made it worth it) not a happy time.

nice and cool yesterday had the balcony door open again--almost thought about putting on sweats for a bit, still the thermostat said it was 78 (I think its borked, but that is just what my thermometers make me believe).....

yes those freeloaders, get free education, free medical, free everything and we get to pay their bills, so nice of our idiots (who dont pay those bills either )....but I digress.....and your brother only has another 2 years before he has reality to face (so look forward to that day).

had a light dinner---made french toast (had the milk and bread though fiep was not happy we used some of it).

We usually shut float building down at 6pm, so us teachers can go home and have an evening. We have to have someone their supervising. So I'll be there again tonight, since tonight is my actual assigned night to be there. It isn't terrible, though yesterday I would have rather have been at home sleeping.

Very nice out yesterday. Supposed to be warmer today and then storms tonight to cool it off. Hope the storms wait until after float building...

He'll be fine when that day hits, he will just see less of his paycheck.

I warmed up some leftover pizza. I'll probably have some leftover mac and cheese tonight. Yay.

not much else you can do.

warmed up pizza? not cold pizza? (I like mine warm too).

made okonomiyaki for dinner Yum!

loved the cooler weather, had the balcony door open (until they mowed the lawn ) and actually got the temp in here to drop a full degree! (went back up when I made dinner since the thermostat is right behind the oven).

Cant believe its already october, put up my halloween decorations and the leaves are dropping all over ...guess summer is over already

Well we finished the float last night apparently. So the teachers that are supposed to go tonight just have to swing by a clean up the area. Lucky ducks...

I don't do cold pizza. Never liked it.

I had leftover tacos for dinner last night. Lets see if I can be motivated enough tonight to make chicken parmigiana.

Thank goodness it is October. Means I'm that much closer to getting another day off... At the end of October anyways... >.>

well that is one way of looking at it. And just think we are that much closer to xmas!

yeah, never liked my pizza cold either, hubby would eat it that way but after the cheese has been melted and recongealed its better to melt the cheese again for my taste at least.

hubby is on dinner duty tonight, think he is doing something with all the potatoes we got (went to the bulk place--think we have 10lbs of them )
